The Second Annual North Jersey Indie Rock Festival Recap
On September 23, Sniffling Indie Kids and Mint 400 Records hosted the Second Annual North Jersey Indie Rock Festival at Cathedral Hall in Jersey City, featuring twenty-four bands across five different local record labels. N.J. Racket was fortunate enough to sponsor the event alongside the world-renowned Jonathan LeVine Projects.
As I had been looking forward to this event for months, it is hard for me to really explain what that day was like and how the experience was to me on a personal level. I got to work closely with Sniffling Indie Kids and Mint 400 while they planned the event, and while my personal involvement was minimal, witnessing the level of effort and dedication they put into lifting this event to its full potential and to create a space and atmosphere that was positive, safe, inclusive, and (most of all) fun was truly inspiring. Before we o any further, I want to take a moment here at the beginning to say thank you to everyone that participated in the event, from the festival planners, performers, promoters, vendors, and audience members. These types of things cannot exist without everyone’s passion and participation.
Sniffling Indie Kids Announce North Jersey Indie Rock Fest Lineup
The time has come to announce the first group of bands for The North Jersey Indie Rock Festival set for September 23 at Cathedral Hall in Jersey City. We have already given you the two sponsors for the event, Jonathan LeVine Projects and, your’s truly, N.J. Racket. Now, we present the lineup of bands from, festival co-founder, Sniffling Indie Kids:
State Champion Records Has Arrived
State Champion Records celebrated their label’s launch with a show at WFMU’s Monty Hall on July 9, and goddamn do they know how to throw a party! The show featured a stacked lineup of local favorites Spowder, Snakeskin, and Decoration. State Champion Records has only been in existence since April of this year, and they’ve wasted absolutely no time making a major impact on the local scene.
Health Palm Ain’t For Your Grandmom…Unless Your Grandmom Cool As Shit
Space power over-watch destroying evil rats! Space power over-watch destroying evil rats! SPACE POWER OVER-WATCH DESTROYING EVIL RATS!
I’m sorry, but I can’t promise that’s entirely out of my system. Health Palm, the newest release from New Brunswick’s Spowder, out on Sniffling Indie Kids, is an absolute must-listen for any fans of old school, hardcore, mosh-pitting, punk music, the likes of which have not been seen, heard, or experience at this level of authenticity for quite some time.
The album rips open that can of whoop ass right from the start with the thirty-second first track SPACE POWER OVER-WATCH DESTROYING EVIL RATS, which, in case you haven’t caught on yet, is the most infectious thirty-second headbanger I’ve ever heard. This track is the thesis statement of the entire album. You know from Track 1 exactly what’s in store for you. This isn’t music for Grandma, unless Grandma can do a dirty pop shove-it.
