State Champion Records celebrated their label’s launch with a show at WFMU’s Monty Hall on July 9, and goddamn do they know how to throw a party! The show featured a stacked lineup of local favorites Spowder, Snakeskin, and Decoration. State Champion Records has only been in existence since April of this year, and they’ve wasted absolutely no time making a major impact on the local scene.
Last weekend, the Screaming Females made yet another homecoming to WFMU’s Monty Hall in Jersey City. This is the second consecutive year the Screaming Females have played this venue, and tickets for both Friday and Saturday night were sold out weeks before the show. WFMU (91.1 FM) is a listener-supported, non-commercial radio station that has been on the air since 1958. As a station, WFMU stands as a true bastion for unique and creative expression, allowing each DJ their own individuality without any restrictive, station-wide playlist or guidelines. They are the alternative beyond alternative.
I got tickets for both nights because I don’t willingly pass up the opportunity to ever see the Screaming Females play a show. Since the inception of N.J. Racket, this has been the fifth time I have covered a performance, and I’m not getting tired of it yet, so I hope you’re not either. Of course you’re not.
Here’s another chance to catch some of the sick talented artists we’ve covered in the past few weeks. Check it out!

For as many shows as N.J. Racket has covered in the past couple of months since our inception, it’s unfortunate that Carrie, the site’s invaluable editor, has been unable to attend any of them, as she currently resides in Lancaster, PA in 1693. Luckily, the indie rock gods smiled down upon us and routed The Screaming Females and Moor Mother’s tour through the Chameleon Club in Lancaster, PA. When I realized this, I immediately got Carrie’s husband, a childhood friend of mine, on the phone and demanded that we all go to the show.
We are pleased to share these few tracks from our last few weeks, having added even more great local artists to our coverage. You’ll probably love them all…
